How to Request an Accurate Printing or Packaging Quote
The six details that help a printer understand your job quickly: product, dimensions, quantity, material, artwork and deadline.
A printing or packaging quote is only as accurate as the information behind it. If you send a message that says “price for 1,000 boxes?” the printer still has to ask several questions before the job can be costed properly.
1. Start with the product
Tell the printer exactly what you need: a mailer box, product carton, catalogue, flyer, sticker, paper shopper or another item. If you are not sure what the product is called, send a reference photo and explain how it will be used.
2. Share the dimensions
For packaging, include length, width and height. For printed materials, include the finished size such as A4, A5 or a custom size. Dimensions affect material use, cutting, finishing and shipping, so they have a direct effect on price.
3. Give the quantity
Printing economics change with volume. The right production method for 100 pieces may not be the same method used for 5,000. Share the quantity you need now and, if relevant, whether the job will repeat regularly.
4. Explain the material and finishing
If you already know the stock, board, lamination, coating or finishing you need, include it. If not, explain the product and desired result so the printer can recommend practical options.
5. Send the artwork or a reference
Attach the design when available. If you do not have artwork yet, send your logo, brand colours and examples of the style you want. This helps separate printing cost from design requirements.
6. Include the deadline
Production planning depends on when the job is needed. Give the required date at the beginning rather than after the quotation.
